Threads CustomerReview
I read this from time to time at my library. Only a small percentage of the inside pertains to me so it isn’t worth subscribing for me. The real value of this magazine is in alerting me to new ideas, trends and products. For example, one issue alerted me to a hot new fabric made from bamboo. It referred me to certain websites and I went ahead and bought some. It is a fantastic fabric. I love it as much as cotton, linen and rayon. The down side is that was the only article in that issue that interested me. Likewise, I found a great article on buttons in another issue that sent me on a great hunt for buttons on ebay and led me to many a great project. This is generally true of how I use this magazine. This makes this magazine ideal for reading in my library’s reading room. I need about ten minutes worth of time to read what I need. I just fan through the pictures for the rest. There are many, many pictures in this magazine too, another major plus. If you are just getting started in textiles, then probably a subscription would be ideal for you.

Ain’t What It Used to Be – Lilinah – San Francisco Bay Area, CA USA
I used to look forward to each issue of Threads. There were always features that took sewing beyond the basics. They showed new creative ways to use fabrics and stitching. And there were articles on refined finishing techniques and pattern fitting.
Well, Threads just is not what it used to be. I no longer subscribe. I flip through an issue when i see it at a newstand, but now i just shrug and put it back.
This used to be a 5, but hasn’t been for years, alas.

Slick, sophisticated magazine – kavanava –
This magazine is mostly aimed at making clothing/wearables and is slick with lots of great pictures. Not for everyone, but like all Tauton publications it is sophisticated and has those articles many other magazines don’t cover. Often the articles will cover how designers construct clothing or how great past designers such as Coco Channel changed design, imagined color, constructed their clothing, etc. There are also many imaginative embellishments and views of great vintage clothing. Perhaps not for everyone but has its place and is a feast for the eyes.

unfortunately a disappointment – T. Wood – Memphis TN
Given the high cost of this magazine and the few issues per year, you’d think the publisher would go out of their way to not irritate their customer base. I got this as a gift for someone else, and she was sent the previous and current issues right off the bat, and barely had her first “new” issue when the renewal notice came.
She asked me not to renew it. Too little content for too high a price- other magazines give better value.
